    • Undertake a comprehensive inspection of your site and the surrounding bushland to understand and assess the level of bushfire risk.
    • Provide advice regarding the design of your development and the bushfire protection measures required to comply with Planning for Bushfire Protection 2019.
    • Outline improvements you can make to existing developments to improve bushfire resilience and provide a better and safer bushfire protection outcome Provide comprehensive reporting to ensure your development application meets legislated requirements so there are no delays to your project.
    • Consider alternatives to your design to gain approval and improve overall safety.

We’ll determine the appropriate level of construction relative to the potential bushfire risk for your site and recommend relevant bushfire protection measures, such as asset protection zones (APZ), water supply and emergency management procedures. We can also provide options for future development or recommend potential building envelopes.

What is Bushfire Prone Land (BPL)?

Land that local Councils have identified as being able to support a bushfire or grassfire and is subject to bushfire attack is known as bushfire prone land (BPL).

If you live on BPL or you’re planning to build on or develop BPL, you’ll need to implement bushfire protection measures to minimise the risk of being affected by bushfires.

All building and development on BPL needs to meet a set of standards for Council or the NSW Rural Fire Service to approve your Development Application (DA).

Engaging a bushfire consultant will help you understand the process and give you guidance on what’s needed for approval.

You can find out if your land is bushfire prone through the NSW Rural Fire Service. Or get in touch with your local council to look at the bushfire prone land map. Or better still contact our bushfire consultants.

We also offer ecology, civil engineering, environmental and planning services from our offices in Lennox Head, Coffs Harbour, and Armidale.
